Frequently asked questions

Are soothers safe for my baby’s teeth and jaw?

Yes, they are—if you choose a biofunctional soother or dummy that does not hinder but ideally promote an optimum development of the child’s jaw, palate, and teeth. These soothers such as the Curaprox soother come with an extra-flat sucking part which guides the sucking pressure to the jaw rather than to the tender palate.

What makes these soothers different form regular pacifiers?

Most of the common soothers come with enormous round or cherry-shaped sucking parts that squeeze the tongue out of its natural position. It can no longer exert the natural, gentle pressure on the soft palate to help it grow wider. The result: a narrow misaligned upper jaw, teeth have no room, and the child may breathe through the mouth instead of the nose.

The Curaprox soother, however, respects and favours the natural position of the tongue, allowing it to rest on the upper jaw, exerting even pressure and allowing it to grow naturally in width and creating enough space for the teeth. What is also good to know, it only stays in the mouth when actively sucked on. The baby is constantly training its jaw and tongue while sucking. This promotes and favours optimal growth.

Which size soother should I choose for my baby?

We recommend the Curaprox soother size 0 for your baby, no matter how old they are. This dummy size can be used at any age and is safe to use. It contains no harmful substances and is biofunctional, meaning that promotes a child's natural growth.

Can the teething ring be cooled in the fridge?

Yes, it is refrigerator-safe and freezer-friendly. The Curaprox teething ring comes with exciting surfaces, a rattle, and a lot of material to explore as well as a possibility to appease the pain of dentition. Stored in the fridge or in the freezer, it can relieve teething pain even more effectively. It is also sterilizer and dishwasher safe.

How often should I replace my baby's soother?

For hygiene and safety reasons, we recommend checking the soother regularly and replacing it at the first signs of wear. The soother should also be cleaned and sterilised regularly.

How do I sterilise the Curaprox soother?

Before first use, sterilise the soother in boiling water for 5 minutes. Afterwards, allow it to cool completely, squeeze out excess water and let it dry thoroughly. For regular cleaning, please follow the product care instructions.

When should babies stop using a soother?

Most children naturally grow out of using a soother over time. Curaprox offers different soother sizes designed for each stage of development and a baby’s natural sucking needs.

Good to know

Soothers ruin child’s teeth

In short: no. A soother is a useful tool as sucking is a natural reflex in infants that helps them feel calm and relaxed.

Offering a soother can calm down a fussy baby. A soother sucking habit typically only becomes problematic if it continues for years as it may eventually cause crooked teeth or bite problems. The longer the habit continues, the more likely it is that your child will need orthodontic treatment in the future. Did you know that in Western Europe, 70–80% of children have a soother and one in two develops a crossbite or an open bite? But not with the Curaprox soother. It comes with s special sucking part: super flat and tongue-friendly, guiding the suction pressure to the jaw rather than the palate. It also respects the natural position of the tongue and therefore promotes a proper development of jaw, palate, and teeth. We call it biofunctional - it offers babies an optimum start into life. And good to know: weaning is not necessary, as the soother only remains in the mouth when the child is actively sucking on it. As the child gets older, they will lose interest and put the soother away on their own.

Which soother size is right for my baby?

For parents, finding the right soother for their child can be a difficult task as the range of soothers available is huge. With the Curaprox soother, the choice is much easier.

We recommend the soother size 0 from birth to all ages. Your child does not need to change soothers as they get older. Well, they can, if a soother is needed for longer, but usually, size 0 suffices.

Reverse unfavourable jaw development
We developed the soothers size 1 and 2 to actively counteract negative changes in children’s mouth due to various reasons. They allow a return to a healthy swallowing pattern and can correct small malocclusions and promote a favourable development of jaw, palate, and teeth alignment. For babies from 1 to 2.5 years: soother size 1, for toddlers older than 2.5 years: soother size 2.

Baby’s best buddies
The soother calms children and parents, as it surely does not do any harm and can be offered without hesitation. The teething ring is exciting, distracts from annoying teething in a playful way, and relieves pressure in the jaw. Thanks to the integrated learning toothbrush, children get to know the toothbrush that will be their daily companion from the moment their first tooth appears and will hopefully incorporate tooth brushing into their lives as a relaxed but necessary and non-negotiable ritual. Ultra-soft Curen® filaments and age-appropriate fluoride in mild, kid-approved flavours clean first teeth with a gentle touch—making brushing both effective and enjoyable. This way, babies enjoy the extra brushing-cuddling time with their parents, and at the same time develop good habits and good oral health. All Curaprox baby & kids products are developed in Switzerland, BPA-free, and free of SLS, microplastics, and azo dyes—so you can offer them with confidence from day one.
